Prohibition Days at Next Door Lounge

We, of The Happy Hour Tour, love Next Door Lounge (read all about it in JG’s 2011 coverage). Voted LA’s “Best Speak Easy” by LA Weekly, Next Door Lounge is like a trip in a time machine back to the “Boardwalk Empire” era (minus the homicides) – you’ve got your suspendered bartenders, flapper waitresses with feather fascinators, and even a door man who looks like Dabney Coleman and wears spats. The crowd is diverse – a mix of guys and dolls, industry folks, and those just looking for a good time.

So we’re thrilled to let you know about Next Door Lounge’s upcoming Prohibition Days. Launching on October 28th – the day that the Volstead Act was enacted to carry out Prohibition in the US back in 1919 – the series includes “Prescription for Prohibition” Sundays featuring bottle service tables with sassy servers and live musical and performance art entertainment reminiscent of 1920’s (banana skirts anyone?).

Just as it was back in the day, Prohibition Days will also feature drink and food deals on the QT and very hush hush – follow NDL’s Facebook and Twitter pages to learn more about the deals! Some of these drink deals will include NDL’s very own batch of Moonshine and Madattan’s – here’s what NDL has to say:

Next Door Lounge will also offer its very own batch of moonshine in collaboration with Hudson Whiskey. Corn whiskey was placed into American Oak casks and aged in small quantities to create the special sauce. After the moonshine was aged, Next Door Lounge utilized the whiskey soaked barrels to then create aged Manhattans, otherwise known as Madattans, using Hudson Baby Bourbon, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Benedictine, and wild flower bitters.
Spiced Orange Smash!

We’re big fans of the delicious Moonshine, the St. George’s Gin Martini (smells like Christmas in a chilled martini glass!), and the new Spiced Orange Smash (which will also be featured on the Prohibition Days menu), an awesome Hennessy cocktail with Velvet Falernum (I’m going to name my firstborn that, btw), Angostura bitters, orange marmalade and lemon juice. We’re not sure of exact pricing, but we'll guess it’s somewhere in the range of Happy Hour deals - $6-7 for good drinks and bites.

One can hope NDL's delicious crostini's will be on the menu - above the Goat Cheese Crostini and the Brie and Date Crostini

The series lasts 6 weeks and ends with a bang on National Repeal Day, December 5th! And just like the days of prohibition, supplies are limited and may not last until then, so we say – visit early and visit often!
