This past holiday season, JB & I had our fill of planes,
trains, and automobiles! On my way back from visiting family in Memphis,
I swung through Springfield to pick up JB to bring her north for a night in the Chicago suburbs. I chose Jimmy’s Grill for the bar of
the evening because they have many daily specials and every time I drive by the
place, it’s packed with a diverse crowd, no matter what time of the day.
On the night of our visit, the bar was not packed at all,
but we were able to see how spacious it is with a dining room, bar room, and large
patio. The night’s crowd was mostly college-aged kids, likely home for their
holiday break. On our way out, we
passed two men that I dubbed college professors. Definitely a switch up from the motorcycles I’ve seen parked
out front on warmer days. I guess
my Sons of Anarchy style crushes were away visiting family.
Even though the bar wasn’t too busy, we still had to wait a
bit for someone to take our order. Eventually, we got to order the $4 Sauza Margaritas
on special for Thursday night. Also on special that night was $3 312/Greenline
drafts and Bud
& Bud Light bottles. The
margaritas were a good size for the price and shaken pretty well. JB’s
margarita went down pretty quickly that she switched it up with a free diet
Coke. It’s always nice when bars
offer complimentary non-alcoholic drinks over some ridiculously overpriced Voss
bottled water.
Since there’s no official happy hour, there are no food
specials. However, that didn’t stop us from ordering onion rings ($7) to
share. The onion rings were tasty,
but we were a little surprised at the small size of the order. We’ve definitely had much more food for
less, even at carb fearing locales in Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, we only stayed for the one margarita and diet
Coke because the service was a little slow. Nice, but slow. Perhaps, the
regular bartenders were on holiday vacation, too? I’d still give Jimmy’s Grill another visit, but I’ll
definitely wait until things pick up during their busy days in hopes of meeting
regular staff and boozers.
