There was a time when Hollywood’s Cahuenga Blvd was crowded with Jersey Shore-like club goers and not a legit bar in sight. These days, with bars at Velvet Margarita, Kitchen 24, and the new Saint Felix location, regular fabulous LA folks can get great drink deals without that whole velvet rope mess!
Saint Felix opened their doors at the old Citizen Smith location in June, and it’s already proving that just because a location is new, it does not need time to get things right. Happy Hour at Saint Felix is not only 5-8pm, giving working people a time to catch it, but also daily, a Happy Hour Tour favorite. Their West Hollywood location has been open for sometime now and also features daily Happy Hour 4-8pm.
And because food is a necessity when consuming cocktails (for me anyway!), we each had an order of the Moroccan Chicken Cups ($5). The Chicken Cups are butter lettuce cups served with cous cous and tzatziki sauce. It was filling, but also light enough that I was not sent into food coma. There are other food options for $5, such as the Kobe Slider, Ahi Slider, Cubano Tacos, & Chopped Salad. The Sliders also come with Sweet Potato Fries making it your own “little happy meal” as the bartender said.
Our female bartender was quick to offer drink suggestions to my friend, June, & I. I had to interrupt when I realized that not one, but ALL of their specialty cocktails are half-off at Happy Hour! It’s such a pet peeve of mine when a bar known for cocktails doesn’t feature at least one or two at happy hour. Not everyone can run the money risk of trying something new at $12 or $13 a pop and Saint Felix’s managing partner, John, gets just that. He saw me snapping away so he came over to introduce himself. We chatted briefly about his happy hour thoughts. He understands that Los Angeles is all about people starting out in careers that may pay the big bucks one day, but not right away, so he wants to make sure that everyone gets to have a great time with the great drinks & food they offer. Now why can’t every bar and restaurant in LA feel that way?
Because I love just about any cocktail with strawberries, we both decided on the Stockholm Syndrome ($6.50). It was a refreshing cocktail made with Martin Miller English Gin, Rosemary, Fresh Mint, & Pomegranate Juice. For round 2, we tried to the Southern Belle ($6), made with a JB favorite, Seagram’s Sweet Tea Vodka and JR’s Electric Lemonade. JB & I have had a couple of Sweet Tea vodka drinks around town and even made some at the HHT headquarters, and I must say this is the best Sweet Tea cocktail I’ve had; something about it was just so smooth. Each cocktail was so amazing that I wish I had the tolerance for more! Hmm… maybe they should offer cocktail flights so I can try more in small doses? I did try a sample of the sangria and I could tell it packs a powerful punch.

It's always nice to show a 'lil leg at Happy Hour.
