Ummmmmba! It was a Saturday in March and Nic and I were excited to hit Obika Mozarella Bar before a restored film screening of TAXI DRIVER at the Century City AMC Theatre. Their Happy Hour wasn’t listed on their website, but Century City Mall’s Facebook page mentioned their Daily Happy Hour. Unfortch, Century City Mall’s Facebook page was a liar (!) – Obika’s Happy Hour only runs Monday to Friday and the best offer we could get out of them (even after showing them the FB post) was one glass of wine at half-price. C’est la vie, we can’t complain too much; we understand that folks gotta run a business.

A beautiful oasis in our sights!

Closer detail on that sign :)

AND even better, we knew that there was an awesome Happy Hour just across the courtyard from Obika at the awesome Ummba Grill – the final stop on last winter’s Holiday Happy Hour Tour. Even after that afternoon/evening of fun drinks and bites, I distinctly remembered Ummba’s excellent Caipirinha (Leblon and fresh muddled limes) and their tasty polenta fries. Ummba is a Brazilian Churrascaria (basically a Brazillian steakhouse) where you can order a variety of meats & poultry and side items by the pound inside or from a set menu and a server. Their Happy Hour features a set menu, so you might as well just grab a seat and order from the menu, which is what Nic & I did on this visit.

Clockwise from top-left: Sweet Potato Fries, Fried Polenta, $20 pitcher of caipirinha

We snagged a table in their nice outdoor seating area (complete with heat lamps for the chilly evening) and ordered a pitcher of caipirinha to share. From the Happy Hour $5 food menu, we selected Sweet Potato Fries (w/ bleu cheese dipping sauce); Shrimp Empanadas (w/ avocado tomatillo sauce) and Fried Polenta (w/ melted parmesan cheese). The food was all very tasty and the serving sizes were swell – the food we ordered made an okay-sized dinner and lasted us through… another pitcher of caipirinha! What? It was delish! And we had the length of TAXI DRIVER to sober up – ha!

All in all – you really can’t go wrong with this Happy Hour – I mean its daily from at least 11am-7pm; there’s a ton of seating including an outdoor lounge area with couches for the romantically inclined and/or large parties; and there plenty of TV’s for sports fans. Ummmmmba is right! Whatever that means!!
