Daily: 5-7 pm, Friday nights at the upstairs bar with a deejay spinning: 8 pm – midnight; $4 beers, $5 margaritas, $5 appetizer selections
Mexico is a hoppin’ little two-story blink & you’ll miss it enclave almost directly at the Southwest corner of Santa Monica and LaCienega. Though I don’t know how you can miss it once you’ve seen it – turquoise door and pink, green, yellow décor, this place is bright!
Surprisingly, I hadn’t actually heard of Mexico (bar, not the country) until my 6th floor work-friend, Patti, recommended their happy hour. So, on a Monday night, we headed over with another 6th floor work-friend, Tracy, and the fun, funky vibe suited our chatfest well, as did the delish $5 margaritas and our array of $5 happy hour appetizer choices (normally priced at $5-12) that we happily made into a dinner feast.
This dinner of champions (or 6th floor co-worker friends!) was comprised of Roasted Corn with Mexican crema for $5 (rich & tasty), the Tres Tacos (LOVED the potato/spinach taco) for $9, guacamole (all zesty & nice-like), grilled shrimp quesadilla, and a $3 side order of black beans. 2 margaritas + all this food later, we were beyond stuffed – but happy with the good menu options!
As we stumbled out with our full stomachs, we noticed a fair amount of Doors artwork – turns out Mexico is housed in the building where the Doors recorded their albums. So, if you’re looking for a little strange slice of rock history and some campy Mexican decorations, look no further :).
