While most of LA was hiding out from the great rainstorm of January, my friend Carrie & I ventured out to finally check out a happy hour that we both had driven by many times before. At first, I wasn’t sure the happy hour time since the details are not on the web site, they’re never tweeted, nor on their voice mail recording. I was sure that if we showed up around 5:30pm, we were bound to stumble upon happy hour and indeed we did.
At Luna Park, happy hour only takes place at the bar. While this may be a problem with other happy hours, there are no confusing rules here. Just sit at the bar. I promise that you will have a good time. Plus, I can’t hate on a place with a bar-only happy hour when the restaurant is a more intimate setting than set for group gatherings. Sitting at the bar didn’t bother us since it was just the two of us. There were only singles and pairs at the bar, all enjoying drinks and food.
The bartender, Laura gave us the happy hour menu, and we ordered up glasses of the Spanish white & red wines. We copied off our neighbor’s food choices and ordered the mini-burger with fries ($5) and the mac & cheese with broccoli ($4). Both were delicious but we really loved the super cheesy shells and broccoli.
The Bartender Laura was incredibly friendly, even chiming in our conversation at times that brought laughs not annoyance. Although we were drinking wine, we were often stopped silent at the sight of her repeatedly mixing a cocktail that involved a mix of muddled cranberry, champagne, and some other stuff. The drink wasn’t on happy hour special, but she told us that it was her specialty. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of it because I couldn’t pronounce it and we kept asking her to repeat it. We didn’t want to be too annoying, but I can tell you that it begins with a C. After all, if we were annoying, we may have never scored a free sample! If I’ve peaked your curiosity enough, be sure to see Laura on Wednesday, Thursday, & Fridays. I know we’ll be back.
