Bodega Wine Bar is a great place to share a bottle of wine & bites with girlfriends. In fact, on previous visits I hardly spotted another man in the place unless they were on a date or worked there. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that that, but after discovering so many good for dates happy hours, it would be nice to find some more for single & mingle.
After a failed attempt to go to the Polaroid photo exhibit hosted by ISM Community event, a friend & I decided to head over to Bodega. Upon entering we were surprised at how many men were in attendance. Due to the community style tables, we ended up sitting between two different groups of guys. Clearly, Saturday is night is the best night for this spot. For this reason, I had to check out the happy hour on a Saturday.
I enlisted my girlfriends Carrie, Arielle, and of course JB to check out the scene. Unfortunately, when we arrived it was pretty empty. The menu states that happy hour is until 7pm. We showed up around 5pm, so I was under the impression that happy hour was in effect for a bit. After asking the server what time happy hour starts, we found out it opens at 5pm.
The girls ordered different white wines, JB went with the happy hour priced chenin blanc, which she enjoyed enough to order three glasses of! I ordered my favorite Bodega red, the McManis Petit Sirah, $6 during happy hour. There are 6 food items on the happy hour menu, and we ordered almost all of them and then some. We shared the bruschetta & olive tapenade, hummus & warm pita, margherita pizza, pepperoni & mushroom pizza. Since JB has the healthy selects down, she went off the happy hour menu and went for the chopped salad. We gossiped and drank a couple more glasses of wine, but maybe next time we should go for the carafes or bottles, also on happy hour priced at $7 & $8 off. We wrapped up our evening with the warm brownie & ice cream dessert. By this time, the place had picked up but the dessert was too good to let anyone distract us.
Saturday night did not end up being a pick-up night for us. Instead, it ended as a regular night of girlfriends catching up at Bodega, which is sometimes one of the most important things to do.
