Lula Cocina Mexicana came highly recommended by several of our friends and readers. So on a sunny Saturday, JB and OC-guest, L-Belz made our way over to the bar as part of a mini-Main Street sweep and found it to be everything it was cracked up to be.
Upon entrance, we immediately liked Lula’s colorful decor, old-time nudie pictures, and good natural lighting, and of course, the free chips & salsa, not always a given at Mexican restaurant happy hours (though they should be!).
We drank 2 margaritas apiece - I went for the regular on the rocks and also the blended mango margarita that another table seemed to be enjoying by the sombrero-full. Both margaritas were quite tasty - the mango ice-blended was kind of filling, like a smoothie. L-Belz and I also shared the Northern Quesadilla with cheese and grilled peppers (thankfully, not spicy peppers, I'm a wuss).
The entire happy hour menu sounded great and featured a nice variety of items for only $4 each, from chicken taquitos to Mexican pizza to calamari tostadas and beyond (thirteen items total = nice variety for a happy hour). The day-long daily happy hour also featured $3.50 Dos Equis and $4 margaritas, sangria, and house wines by the glass. The happy hour is served only at the bar area - which is fine; it's spacious, seats groups, and features a patio. There’s even a couple old ass tv's to watch sports on.
We wish this happy hour was closer to our Hollywood abode, but even with its distant location, we're sure to check it out again. Of course with a designated driver or the LA Metro system.
