If you don’t know, the RH in RH Lounge stands Riot House, the nickname for the Hyatt when it was run amuck by rock stars during the 1970s. We love the history of rock stars and the women who followed them so when we learned that RH Lounge makes a cocktail named Mr. Plant, who claimed that he is “a Golden God” from one of the hotel’s balconies back in the day, we were game.
However, our dreams were almost dashed when we found out their idea of happy hour is not cheap drinks, but free snacks and regularly priced $13 drinks. If it wasn’t for the rock history and the twitter exchange with @andazweho, we may have passed. Reviewing happy hours can be hard works sometimes but someone has to do it.
Everyone at RH Lounge was welcoming. Our party of three sat at the bar, ordered up 2 Mr. Plants and 1 405 Crush, & received 2 plates of free bites.
Although drinks were above our regular price range, the plates of ceviche, proscuitto on ciabatta, & homemade foie gras crostini made us feel like we had received quite a deal. We even regretted eating at the happy hour we reviewed prior because it was quite filling. To our surprise when we cleaned our plates, we were brought a second helping!
Back to the drinks! The head bartender, Beau, made our drinks. He was very helpful when selecting drinks and even made sure that our friend was sure about her choice before making it. Each one our drinks included some fruit, juice, and/or syrup that tasted fresh, not too sweet. All had the perfect amount of ice, fruit, & booze. Because the service was so great, we even stayed for one last drink, The Assemblage, made of gin, blackberries, raspberries, & cane brown sugar. Yum.
RH Lounge didn’t really strike us as a place to meet people, although our friend chatted with some older gentlemen
drinking cosmos. (Future sugar daddies?)
Due to the drink prices, RH Lounge is a place to come when you want to splurge for great drinks & service or have your sugar daddy take you out. We might be back, but just couldn’t afford to make a regular thing of it.
